Because I'm still in finals mode, I'll add citations. From Wikipedia, because no one else really needs to be cited. Ever. Well, OfficeQuotes.net, too. In the words of Michael Scott, "Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject, so you know you are getting the best possible information. (2007)"
The purpose of Take Your Daughter to Work Day was "encouraged employees in the United States to invite a prepubescent-aged girl to spend the day with the employee at his or her workplace, with the aim of exposing girls to various career opportunities (2009)." It usually falls on the fourth Thursday of April (2009), but for some reason, probably because it's finals week, and thus the kids are more annoying than usual, the University is doing it this week.
It's so great to use MLA. MLA is clearly superior to APA.
Here's what went down. I remember going with my dad when I was in third grade. And there were all girls. Except for one guy who brought his sons. And I was like "No. This is MY DAY." Because, back in the mid-90s, I guess girls still felt like idiots and not exposed to any kind of work. I also knew that, whatever my dad did, I did not want to do it. He did cool things for me, like taking a Hi-Lo over bubble wrap he had laid out on the floor and taught me how to play solitaire on the computer (and computers were amazing enough back then, let me tell you). The intended purpose was to take girls out of the gender stereotype of staying at home & raising kids and expose them to a variety of jobs (like, for example, I got to walk around Ford Motor Company in the heyday of SUVs and see clay models of future Explorers). It was really a cool day.
Toby: This may be the first time that a male subordinate has attempted to get a modest scheduled raise by threatening to withhold sex from a female superior. It will be a groundbreaking case when it inevitably goes to trial. (2007)
And my dad took me because he really wanted me to work at Ford one day (keep the family tradition going, you know?). I know this because, in tenth grade, he gave me a bunch of stuff on Ford's engineering program. Fortunately it did not interest me enough , and good thing, because the Big Three? Really? But the point is that I saw other women working with my dad and that I could grow up and have a job and not be like my mom who did not really have a job until I was seven. Parents who just didn't get the concept of the day were like "That's not fair, I don't have daughters, I want to take them to work too! Waaaa!" You can tell me all you want that it's exposing all students to the workforce, but guys were (are) expected to go and get jobs so they don't need the day to go to work and find out what's up.
And the kids aren't even here. They're off doing activities in the building next door. Are they actually getting exposed to their parental's jobs? No. Pointless. They can do icebreakers and color any old day in school. Way to cheapen the meaning of a feminist ideal...
Kevin: Karen, how do you feel that Roy tried to kick your boyfriend's ass over another woman? (2007)
Karen: I feel great, Kevin. Thank you. (2007)
I really do enjoy Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milk & Cereal Bars. A lot.
I really should have worn my fat sucking shorts because I am about to rip out of these pants. They've always been a little tight but JESUS.
Who still has daytime/evening phone numbers? Who even had them to begin with?
Are you my Twitter friend? theruthshow.
Due to my lack of focus, it's a wonder I'm graduating with a 3.4.
